Land Bank for Shepherds

Ruris worked on the Land Bank for Shepherds, an instrument for promoting sustainable rural development whose main objective was to find landowners willing to lease their abandoned or economically undervalued rural, agricultural or forestry properties for pastoral activity. Conceived as an instrument for fostering local development, the Land Bank for Shepherds sought to make access to land easier for current and future entrepreneurs in pastoralism, bringing those who need access to land closer to those who own it and are willing to lease it, thereby preventing land abandonment and landscape degradation and contributing to the sustainable development of the rural economy.

Ruris carried out the following actions under this project:

• A study evaluating the impact of the Land Bank for Shepherds:
  • Characterisation and analysis of the current implementation models of the Land Bank for Shepherds;
  • Satisfaction surveys to consult the stakeholders involved (producers, companies, public bodies);
  • Analysis of the impact of the Land Bank for Shepherds on economic activity and on the area, using indicators to be established;
  • Focus groups to establish the sectors' needs in order to increase the production of milk and D.O.P. cheese;
  • Proposal for new Land Bank for Shepherds models to be implemented in future editions.
