Tâmega e Sousa Bio-Region – Strategic Plan

RURIS developed the Strategic Plan for the Tâmega e Sousa Bio-region, a structuring document geared towards adding value to the region through the promotion of organic farming, environmental sustainability and closer links between the agri-food, tourism and community sectors.

The work designed by Ruris was based on an in-depth assessment of the regional agri-food system, identifying its production potential, its main challenges and the opportunities for sustainable development.

The strategy promotes the transition to agroecological models, adds value to local produce, strengthens short supply chains and creates economic and social value in the region.

The Plan sets out a shared vision, a participatory governance model and a multi-annual Action Plan, aligned with the principles of Bio-Regions and with the objectives of sustainability, territorial cohesion and economic resilience.

This work also formed the basis for signing the partnership agreement under which the region joined IN.N.E.R. – International Network of Eco Regions, reinforcing Tâmega e Sousa's position as a benchmark region in the transition to more sustainable food systems, both nationally and internationally.

The actions carried out by Ruris were:

• Definition, organisation and facilitation of Working Groups;
• Preparation of the Strategic Plan for the Tâmega e Sousa Bio-Region;
• Completion of the administrative procedures required to join the International Network of Eco Regions.
