Tâmega e Sousa Bio-Region – Strategic Plan

RURIS produced the Strategic Plan for the Tâmega e Sousa Bio-Region, a structuring document aimed at adding value to the territory through organic farming, environmental sustainability and closer articulation between the agri-food, tourism and community sectors.

The work rested on an in-depth diagnosis of the regional agri-food system, identifying its productive potential, its main challenges and its opportunities for sustainable development. The resulting strategy promotes the transition to agroecological models, the valorisation of local produce, stronger short supply chains and the creation of economic and social value across the territory.

The Plan sets out a shared vision, a participatory governance model and a multiannual Action Plan, aligned with the principles of the Bio-Regions and with the goals of sustainability, territorial cohesion and economic resilience. This work also formed the basis for the partnership agreement under which the territory joined IN.N.E.R. – International Network of Eco Regions, reinforcing Tâmega e Sousa's position as a reference territory in the transition to more sustainable food systems, nationally and internationally.
