Pilot Plan for Mosaic Landscape Management

RURIS developed a Pilot Plan for Mosaic Landscape Management, aimed at the integrated and sustainable management of rural land, focusing on the interplay between forestry, agriculture and other productive activities, and promoting environmental resilience, fire prevention and the economic development of the area.

The work designed by Ruris included a detailed assessment of the municipality, with a view to identifying and characterising rural properties and areas with intervention potential, in particular through leasing, acquisition or shared management models. On the basis of this assessment, business plans were drawn up for sustainable forestry and farming activities, demonstrating the economic viability and the socio-economic impact of mosaic landscape management.

The Plan also included a proposed regulatory model, designed to support the Municipality should it decide to grant or sublet mosaic forestry and farming operations, as well as pilot intervention proposals, including innovative solutions for managing natural resources and reducing fire risk. This Pilot Plan is a technical and strategic decision-support instrument for the Municipality, providing a concrete basis for implementing local policies on active landscape management and sustainable regional development.

The actions carried out by Ruris were:

• Assessment of the municipality;
• Preparation of business plans for sustainable forestry and farming activities: livestock, pine and chestnut;
• Preparation of a regulation allowing the Municipality, should it so decide, to grant concessions for mosaic forestry and farming operations.
