Study for the Walking Trail Network and Visitor Flow Management

RURIS designed the "Study for the Walking Trail Network and Visitor Flow Management" with the aim of supporting a more efficient and sustainable organisation of the walking offer across the region, adding value to its natural, cultural and landscape resources without compromising their preservation.

The study is therefore a decision-support instrument, providing a technical and strategic basis for the phased implementation of the trail network and for more responsible, coordinated and sustainable management of the region.

The actions carried out by Ruris were:

• Consultation with partners to gather input and align strategies;
• Assessment and mapping, through an analysis of the region identifying existing and potential trails, as well as an evaluation of usage conditions and the impacts associated with visitor presence;
• Preparation of a set of guidelines for creating, upgrading and maintaining the routes, incorporating safety, signage, interpretation and conservation criteria;
• Preparation of a visitor flow management model, based on monitoring mechanisms and on measures that spread visits more evenly across the year, reduce pressure on sensitive areas and improve the experience of trail users;
• Promotion and outreach, mainly through digital platforms, with the creation of a landing page, social media management and the creation of a brand;
• Outreach in the press, radio and television, as well as to tour operators and travel agencies.
