Norte 2020 Reports €710 Million of Investment in the Region

NORTE 2020 – the Norte Regional Operational Programme has already approved €400 million of European Union Funds, according to the review presented today at the Programme Monitoring Committee. This approved amount will enable investments worth €710 million in projects that promote the north of Portugal.

The review is dated 30 April and is being presented today in Boticas, at the NORTE 2020 Monitoring Committee, a collegiate body made up of representatives of social, economic, environmental and scientific organisations representing the region's institutional fabric. A significant part of this figure comes from strong demand from businesses for the opportunities offered by Norte 2020, with internationalisation, innovation and research projects. Between March 2015 and April 2016, 1,523 SME projects were approved, representing an investment of €660 million with €362 million of European support. The forecast for the coming months is that the Programme's commitments will continue to grow, with 1,182 projects currently under review.

As for public investment, with the first calls having been launched in February 2016 to support investment in health, schools, cultural facilities and natural heritage, most projects are still under review. Of the 624 applications submitted, 17 have already been approved.
