Technical and Economic Viticulture Models in the Vinhos Verdes Region

The Technical and Economic Models for Viticulture in the Vinhos Verdes Region is a study aimed at grape growers in the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region and at other sector associations and cooperatives. Its general objective is to present and systematise good practice in grape growing, expressed in economic indicators, so that the analysis of these results leads to actions and measures that the sector's various players (cooperatives, associations, private operators, etc.) can implement to ensure the economic sustainability of the activity.

The main actions carried out by Ruris were:

• Field visits to a diverse range of farms growing grapes;
• Preparation of two sustainability models for grape growing in the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region: a professional (commercial) model;
• Definition of two alternative crops to viticulture in the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region and the corresponding crop accounts; and a part-time (family) model;
• Comparative analysis of the profitability indicators for viticulture and for the two alternative crops;
• Presentation and validation of the sustainability models before a panel made up of members selected by CVRVV;
• Public presentation of the sustainability models for grape growing in the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region.
